Why two pairs last longer than three years of one.Leather needs a day to dry out. Here is the math.

The Dixon, turned over the way everyone does the first time.

A pair of leather shoes worn every day lasts about a year before the lining goes and the sole wears through on the outside edge. The same pair worn every other day lasts closer to three. That is not marketing; it is moisture.

Your feet put out close to a cup of water a day. Leather absorbs it and, left alone overnight, lets most of it go. Worn again the next morning, it never fully dries. Damp leather stretches, creases deeper, and the lining wears like wet paper.

Two pairs in rotation each get a full day to dry. Each lasts roughly twice as long, so two pairs give you something like four years of wear for the price of two, instead of two years of wear for the price of two bought one after the other.

This is also why we take 15% off when you buy two pairs and 20% off three. It is better business for us when your shoes last, because you come back for the next style instead of the same one.

Pick two that do different jobs: a lace-up and a loafer, or a boot and a sneaker. Cedar trees help if you have them. A day off helps more.
